CART Stars of Tomorrow driver Scott Meadow uses VirtualGT to tune his skills before a race.

"I've been using racing simulators for over a decade to perfect my skills VirtualGT is by far the most realistic racing simulator I have ever driven. I use VGT to train on circuits like Laguna Seca, Sebring and others."

Improve your racing skills by driving VirtualGT

One of the most interesting aspects of driving VGT is Ghost Racing, where you race against a transparent "ghost" of your car's best lap. You are racing EXACTLY the same car you are driving. Real race cars are never exactly equal, even in the tightest spec racing encountered in amateur and pro events. Therefore, you never know if the straight speed you lose or gain over your competitor is a result of grip, horsepower, or driving skill.

Here are some of the skills you can sharpen by racing VirtualGT...

SLOW IN, FAST OUT
It's often tempting to overdrive a corner, waiting until the last second to brake in order to not scrub off straight speed. But the high speed entry requires the car to slow down too much. Regaining the speed that was scrubbed off takes lots of time and exit speed suffers. Ghost Racing enables the VGT driver to clearly understand the impact of overdriving a corner on exit speed. Watching the Ghost steadily pull away from you down the following straight is a profound lesson. And when you come into the corner slower, but then exit fast and walk away from the Ghost, you quickly learn that slower in often means faster out.

REACTION TIME AND FOCUS
Racing at 200+ MPH in traffic is something that many racers never get to experience. The reaction time and focus required is intense. A VGT racer can fine tune and maintain these mental abilities to a high level between real races.

SET UP BRAKING AND TURN-IN POINTS
Racing VGT takes place in a 2-Dimensional world. You have NO depth perception. Therefore you MUST set up braking points and turn-in points and hit these religiously to optimize your lap time. You cannot fall back on perception because it just doesn't work very well. This practice on VGT helps to develop good habits translating into better lap times on a real track.

GET ON THE POWER SOONER
One of the most amazing aspects of Ghost Racing is to learn how important getting on the power sooner translates into straight speed. Stabbing the accelerator just a half second sooner exiting a turn often results in walking away from the Ghost down the straight. This is hard to demonstrate in real racing because you are not racing the exact same car.

DON'T WATCH THE CAR IN FRONT
It's hard to not focus on the car directly in front of you rather than looking up the track. This car may be driving a terrible line. Racing behind your Ghost forces you to look through the ghost to see the approaching corner or turn and is a great way to practice focusing around the car in front.

TRACK MEMORY
In order to drive around a track as fast as possible, massive amounts of data must be learned and committed to memory. Braking & turn-in points for 10-20 corners, track surface details, apron and off-track features, gear selection, throttle management, positioning the car on the straights, weight transfer in complex turns, and more must be memorized for each track and car. Given the dozens of tracks and over a 100 cars, this mental exercise helps tune and maintain the memory skills you need to optimally drive real cars on real tracks.
